My photographic career began with me shooting people in my school , along with the occasional headshot It didn't take long for me to realize that fashion photography was not for me. I fell into photographing events mostly by chance. As soon as I began shooting events, I realized this was the type of work I wanted to do. So after 30 years of military service in the US Army, I knew I wanted to shoot images like a photojournalist. There’s no question, my photography training from the Art Institute of San Antonio and my experience with studio lighting provided an invaluable foundation for my current work. I’ve always had a style of composition that has been unmatched. I also knew when to pull back and be an almost invisible presence when covering an event. In the back of my head I’m always thinking about telling my clients story. I really think everyone should get into photography. (Yes, I mean everyone). You don’t have to do it professionally. That’s not what being a photographer means, being a photographer just means you really love pictures. And hopefully after reading all of this, you’ll see that it can give you more than you ever imagined. Now don't get me wrong there are some time when I ask myself why am I doing this? I think back to the day me and my son JJ was sitting around the dinner table, he was drawing some pictures for a game he was working on and I was working on some documents for work when I came across a picture I had took downrange. So I wanted to show it to him a long with some other pictures. So as I showed him the pictures he asked where was I and I replied I'm taking the picture, I showed him image after image, with him asking the same question, where are you and I said again and again I'm taking the picture. And he said I wish you were a better photographer so you could be in the picture too. And that totally convince me that photography is an amazing skill to develop. With a photo you can capture a moment, and have it forever and if your real good you can even be in a picture or two.
